Who We Serve
While Catholic Utah does plan some events for the entire community, we try to limit the ages of the audience for some of our events to those in their mid-20’s to mid-50’s. We would like to explain our rationale for this.
When the founders of Catholic Utah first met to start this ministry, we all felt that our demographic was underrepresented in ministries of the Catholic Church. We found it very easy to find events and activities when we were young-adults in college, and we know there are many events and groups for seniors and older parishioners. However, we felt there was a gap in the ministries for those in the stage of life ‘in-between’ these other age groups. We all had experiences of participating in parish events and finding ourselves 30+ years younger than anyone else there. Many in this age group have already started on their path in life, but need on-going support and education in their Faith. We were craving friendships and connections with peers who are passionate about their Catholic faith, but since we see so few families at Mass most of the time, we were struggling to find them. The support of peers is critical during this challenging time in our culture, and we wanted to help others who are searching for similar connections.
Perhaps the social needs of this demographic were once met through the Catholic school community, but as our schools and culture have evolved, this no longer seems sufficient. Thus, we decided it was time to create a new ministry tailored specifically to the needs of this demographic. We feel that ministering to this age group will fulfill a need in the Catholic Church because this group includes parents, who have been entrusted with the enormous responsibility of raising faith-filled children. Previously, we avoided putting specific age numbers to limit the audience because, of course, age does not perfectly describe one’s situation in life. We did feel it was necessary to do so at this point to help everyone understand our focus. If you feel that you would benefit from our ministry but do not fall within this age range, please email us. Thank you for understanding and thank you for supporting this ministry. We believe it is meeting a deep need and will help build a stronger future for the Catholic Church in Utah.
